Truly fitting of the title

Caught this one at my parents' house this Sunday. It took me three reads through before I got the gag, but once I did, I had to share it.

If you're struggling, read the second to last panel out loud. If you're still struggling, click on this sound bite.

Thanks to Pearls before Swine for posting the day's comic online.

That's a really long way to go for that gag...

...and I'm not sure it was worth it

I would disagree, Calen. I'm always a fan of the long setup for the corny pun gag. Plus there's the fact that the cartoonist even recognizes and acknowledges how bad the joke is.

I'm reminded of a bit in a Terry Pratchett novel (Soul Music, I think it was) where a character was sitting in the street playing a stringed instrument.
Two people walk by, and one of them says "That's a harp"
"Lyer."
"How long have you been waiting for that set up? I bet you were waiting years for someone to say 'harp' so you could say 'liar'..."

I'm paraphrasing (badly), but you get the deal.

A quality joke, TL...here's another one along the same vein but with a longer set-up...

Skim through Order of the Stick #471...then notice the sixth panel on OotS #483...hilarious, I tell ya, hilarious...
