Think of a lone polar bear on a piece of ice all that's kind of melting

I caught an interesting turn of events in the always funny crossover area between government and science. Looks like the US government has noticed that the polar bears are kinda not doing well. It seems that this global warming thing seems to be threatening them - something about them living on ice and ice melting as the world warms. Who knew?

And then there's the entertaining bit about the fact that if the government declares an animal / species to be threatened (as the polar bear has been proposed to be) then they kind of have to do something to prevent any further damage and maybe even help undo the damage already done.

Wait for it...

Pause...

Um...

If the government says (and scientists seem to agree) that polar bears are threatened because of global warming, then the government has to kind of...um...well...stop...um...global warming, right?

And our government has been a little reluctant to do that in the past, and the current administration sort of leans on the side of big business, so this could be a very interesting turn.

Will the government do something like - oh, I don't know - regulate business polution? Or maybe they could do something to promote a little less driving or at least decrease the pollution from automobiles?

Let's not get too crazy about that, boys. We don't want to take too drastic a step there in terms of stopping that whole global warming thing there.

Um...Global Warming is a theory that has yet to be proved. There is no scientific data that conclusively tells us global warming exists. In fact, data show sweeping secular cycles of weather and climate patterns. We happen to be in a pattern of generally warming patterns across the globe. But don't forget, the mean temperature of the planet actually declined at the height of the US's factory pollution (1950-1975).This whole global warming thing is really starting to p*#% me off. It is not REAL!

That being said, it is a good idea to cut down on CFCs, air pollution, etc. It is idiotic to drill in ANWAR etc. We really need to step things up on the whole protect our enviornment thing, no doubt about it. But it should be a moral and ethical argument. Not some alarmist bunk.

If you believe Al Gore without doing a bit of digging around about his "facts," then you probably believe that he invented the Internet, too.

Yes glaciers are melting...No it is not because we as a nation drive too many SUVs. Does that mean we should keep running around in SUVs? Hell no, the waste in the US is sickening....in fact, I think we should take all SUV owners and put them on a desert isle and blow it up. That would solve global warming, unless we used a nuclear bomb....wait, no, using a nuclear bomb would invoke a nuclear winter...that might help. Hey, that's it, we'll kill two birds with one stone- fix our societal ills and fix global warmingW! Can't you see the bumper stickers now "Nuke SUV Owners NOW!"
