Gotta disagree on the scarves. There is nothing wrong with a lightweight scarf in the summer/ spring/ fall. It's about the weight of the fabric, and not the fact it is fabric. Be glad you are not sitting where I am, my scarf collection is into the double digits.
I like scarves I am totally guilty of that one. Also the giant bag trend (seen in the scarf photos) is something I am pretty guilty of. I know it's horrible...but huge bags make it easier to carry many books.
You could put your books in a backpack, maybe even one of the fashionable single-strap ones (better for the back, I understand).
