Bringing it all back - in just over a week's time

Thanks, hulu, for putting together a collection of JT's best from SNL just in time for his fifth time hosting...

Samsa I amsa

Couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to catch episode 470 of This American Life - an NRP show that I praise every chance I get around here. The episode's theme/title was "Show Me the Way" and featured three stories of people making odd choices of to whom they turn for advice. The opener was a brief tale of a man whose divorce lawyer had an affair with the man's soon-to-be ex-wife. The next story was an incredibly well-told tale of a fifteen-year-old who ran away from home to live with Piers Anthony.

But the best tale - part three - was a story from the mashed-up literature files in which Gregor Samsa turns to Dr Seuss for medical advice. I was - and still am - amazed.

A gag that never gets old

It's pathetic how frequently I search for this post. I'm going to make my life a little easier by including the phrase "batman's dead parents".

Ok, I lied

One more week, folks...since I'm currently somewhere in the Grand Canyon...

Just ever knew what they were going to do...


They just might break out the classic head rusher gag...


Or just hit us with a stereotypical cop...


Sure, we loved them, but we weren't clutish...


Even the between-sketch clips were entertaining...


There was that one time a woman actually showed up on the show...


Or the time the reminisced...


They were clearly destined for the top...


They didn't even feel restricted enough to stick to comedy purely in English...


They tried all the creative possibilities...


In the end, however, the trappers just might have been my all-time favorite...

Closing the trio...

And three straight weeks is as far as I'll take you...

Buddy Cole was one of their recurring characters...


As was the Chicken Lady...


And Sir Simon...


And Cabbage Head, too...


Sizzler and Sizzler took up pretty much an entire episode...


The waiter with stumps for hands, however, was a single timers...


It was a bit of a show for loners...


And for geniuses, too...


Ya just never knew what you'd get from the Kids...


Sometimes they'd just speak directly and emotionally to the audience...


Or they'd occasionally and randomly insult entire nations...


But their sketches were never mistakes...

More youngish individuals in some sort of narrow walkway with walls and a roof

Continuing with last week's theme...

That Dave guy seemed to have a lot of weird speech impedements...


Some of them might...just might've had gender issues - as I mentioned last week...


Much of what I learned about religion I learned from these guys...


...and philosophy, too...


Heck, I even got advice from these guys...


The special effects were amazing...easily ahead of their time...


They were phenomenal performers...


They showed teaching at its absolute finest...


They helped me learn how to stay on task...


They had a big fan following...

The reason for last week's post

The State was pretty clearly influenced by the various Daves and the rest of The Kids in the Hall...

There are the various Daves...


I'm thinking that a couple of the Kids might've had some gender issues...


Somehow I'm thinking they weren't all Americans...


They did know, however, how to make up comedy sketches...


They did have a faint connection the our fair Queen City, though...


And they weren't down with the painted face crew...


With twistedness like this, I'm thinking some of them may've had weird backgrounds...


They certainly were expert sarcasm users...


...and willing to teach kids all sorts of things...


...and they showed great apatheticalnessism...
